Description
The integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the field of English Language Teaching (ELT) represents a significant pedagogical shift, creating new paradigms for language acquisition and instruction. This paper explores the evolving role of AI in ELT, offering a comprehensive analysis of its current applications, underlying benefits, and persistent challenges. The findings, synthesized from a review of contemporary literature, indicate that while AI technologies substantially enhance language learning through adaptive platforms, conversational agents, and automated assessment tools, their implementation is not without difficulties. Critical issues concerning digital equity, the necessity for robust teacher training, the demand for culturally sensitive algorithms, and data privacy concerns remain at the forefront of the discussion. This study argues that the optimal path forward involves a synergistic model where AI serves to augment, not replace, the indispensable role of the human educator. It concludes by presenting actionable recommendations for educators, curriculum developers, policymakers, and researchers aimed at responsibly harnessing the potential of AI to create more effective, accessible, and engaging language learning environments while proactively mitigating its inherent limitations.
