London Landmarks: A Geospatial Dataset for Urban Exploration and Route Optimisation
Description
This dataset provides a selected geospatial record of London’s permanent historic, architectural, cultural, and civic landmarks.
Each entry represents a distinct, permanent landmark, such as a palace, court, museum, bridge, square, academic institution, or cultural site. The dataset is designed to support mapping, walking-tour design, route optimisation, urban navigation, and demonstrations in GIS, operations research, optimisation, and graph-based modelling.
Each record includes:
-
WGS 84 latitude and longitude,
-
UTM Zone 30N projected eastings and northings (EPSG:32630),
-
London borough,
-
a high-level category describing the site’s primary function, and
-
a brief descriptive note providing historical or functional context.
Coordinates are provided in EPSG:32630 (WGS 84 / UTM Zone 30N) to enable replicable planar distance calculations, optimisation modelling, and spatial analysis. The dataset includes approximately 150 landmarks across Greater London, with consistent naming, categorisation, and coordinate precision.
The dataset and accompanying documentation are provided as CSV and Markdown files.
