Description

In an era where AI can access, memorize, and accurately quote all original texts, where does
human intellectual value lie? This paper proposes the concept of "Context Decoding"—a
cognitive capacity to reconstruct not the literal meaning of texts, but the historical
circumstances, ideological conflicts, and social conditions from which they emerged, using
one's cross-disciplinary knowledge and lived experience as decryption keys. We argue that this
capacity, distinct from close reading of primary sources, constitutes the core intellectual
activity humans should undertake in the age of AI. While AI excels at textual fidelity, it
fundamentally cannot perform context decoding because it lacks embodied existence, temporal
situatedness, and the ability to use biographical experience as an interpretive lens. This
represents not a limitation to be overcome, but a permanent asymmetry that defines the
human-AI intellectual division of labor.
