Description

A central characteristic of the internet as a communicative channel is to offer the opportunity for individual users with the same interests to get into contact and discuss these interests in an easy and direct way. One such example is online patient fora. In this contribution I will analyze two interactions in such a forum with a view to the strategies applied when co-constructing disease-related knowledge. My focus is on the complexity of causal explanations offered in the posts and in a second step on characterizing the posts concerning how the senders of the posts work with the knowledge asymmetry they signal through their use of causal explanations.
