Description
Artificial Intelligence (AI) holds transformative potential to accelerate sustainable development by improving efficiency, enabling data-driven decision-making, and creating novel solutions across energy, agriculture, health, education, and urban systems. However, uneven access, governance gaps, bias, environmental costs, and economic displacement can undermine equitable, sustainable outcomes. This paper synthesizes recent evidence on AI’s contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), reviews representative sectoral applications (smart grids, precision agriculture, health and education), analyzes risks and distributional impacts, and proposes a multi-stakeholder policy and technical framework to channel AI toward inclusive, low-carbon, resilient growth. Key recommendations include strengthening data and compute access in lower-income regions, embedding environmental accounting into AI development, investing in human capital, and developing interoperable governance standards that prioritize rights and equity.
Artificial Intelligence (AI) has emerged as one of the most transformative technologies of the 21st century, playing a crucial role in driving sustainable growth across multiple sectors. This research paper explores how AI contributes to achieving long-term economic, social, and environmental sustainability. The study highlights the integration of AI in areas such as agriculture, healthcare, energy management, waste reduction, and climate change mitigation. By enabling predictive analytics, process automation, and smart decision-making, AI enhances efficiency while reducing resource consumption and carbon footprints.
Moreover, AI-driven innovations are creating new opportunities for green technology, sustainable urban planning, and circular economy models. However, the paper also addresses potential challenges, including ethical concerns, employment displacement, and the need for inclusive access to AI technologies. Through an analysis of real-world applications and policy frameworks, this research emphasizes that the responsible and equitable use of AI can act as a catalyst for achieving the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In conclusion, the study underscores that sustainable growth in the AI era depends not only on technological advancement but also on human-centered governance, collaboration, and ethical innovation.
