DIFFERENCES BETWEEN WRITTEN AND SPOKEN CORPORA

Written and spoken corpora represent two fundamental types of language data in corpus linguistics. Although both are based on authentic language use, they differ significantly in terms of structure, production processes, and linguistic features. This article explores the main differences between written and spoken corpora, focusing on their characteristics, methods of compilation, and research applications. By comparing these two corpus types, the article highlights how mode of communication influences grammar, vocabulary, and discourse patterns.
