It's time to decarbonise digital research
Description
As the climate crisis intensifies the digital research community is becoming increasingly aware of its environmental responsibilities. This poster draws on a comment article which argues that while many researchers are motivated to act, grassroots enthusiasm is often hampered by a lack of clear guidance, institutional support, and coherent frameworks for meaningful change (https://tinyurl.com/bdshdk4y). This leads to a real risk of squandering goodwill, and slowing the pace of change.
To bridge this gap, community-led initiatives, certification schemes, and peer networks are emerging as powerful enablers of sustainable digital practice. This poster will showcase some promising activities in this space, including grassroots networks such as the Green Research Software Engineering Special Interest Group and NetDRIVE, as well as tools like Green DiSC. These initiatives not only provide practical guidance but also foster a sense of shared purpose across disciplines and institutions.
