Wastewater-based and case-based Surveillance data for monitoring COVID-19 in Germany, 2022–2024
Authors/Creators
Description
The dataset described in this paper comprises wastewater-based and case-based indicators for COVID-19 monitoring in Germany over a continuous 131-week observation period spanning from mid-2022 to the end of 2024. It includes nationally aggregated, population-weighted measurements of SARS-CoV-2 viral loads obtained from wastewater surveillance, alongside indicators derived from four established case-based surveillance systems. These systems comprise two syndromic surveillance systems, one primary care-level system, and one system based on laboratory-confirmed notification data. The indicators derived from these case-based systems aim to quantify the COVID-19 incidence at the population level in Germany. The dataset allows for the assessment of the responsiveness and interpretability of wastewater viral loads relative to case-based systems measuring incidence.
The columns in the dataset are described as follows:
- Week: Monday of the respective week
- WW-VL: Wastewater viral load
- GNS-I = German Notification System of COVID-19
- PS-VPR-I = Participatory System Virological Positivity Rate
- PS-SR-I = Participatory System Self-Reported
- PC-COVID-ARI-I = Sentinel for Electronic Recording of Diagnoses of Acute Respiratory Infections, combined with Par-
ticipatory System.
