Description
This is the October 1999 issue of the International Newsletter on Physics Education (ICPE). It reports on ICPE’s activities under outgoing chair Paul Black, including conferences in Cuba, Argentina, Hungary, Germany, China, and Guilin, and highlights trends such as integrating physics education research, broadening curricula to include societal and environmental contexts, and leveraging the Internet for global resource sharing. The issue features conclusions from the Guilin conference on lifelong learning, teacher support, and student engagement, as well as a physics education project in Uganda focused on capacity building. Additional articles discuss culturally contextualized teaching, physics in stamps, anamorphic images, and upcoming international conferences.
