Description

Treating human colorectal and breast cancer with medicinal mushroom extracts

This conference presentation provides an integrated overview of clinical outcomes observed in patients with colorectal and breast cancer treated with medicinal mushroom preparations as complementary therapy.
The dataset covers 51 colorectal cancer patients and 105 breast cancer patients treated between 2004 and 2007, with clinical data sourced from official medical records across Croatia and neighboring countries.

Key findings for colorectal cancer include:

  • Over 90% of patients showed unchanged or improved status after the first course of mycotherapy.
  • Regression occurred in 44.8% of evaluable cases.
  • Survival rate at the end of the follow-up period reached 62.7%, despite more than 60% of patients presenting in TNM Stage IV.
  • Patients receiving forte dosages for 90 days or more showed markedly better survival.

Key findings for breast cancer include:

  • Survival rate at the end of the follow-up period reached 64.8%.
  • Among live patients, 68.8% were disease-free at follow-up.
  • Strong dose–response patterns, where higher cumulative intake correlated with improved outcomes.
  • Most regression and stability occurred in patients whose primary tumour had already been resected.

Overall, the results support the potential role of intensive, properly dosed mycotherapy as a valuable complementary component of cancer care, associated with improved short-term tumor response, better long-term survival, and enhanced quality of life in both colorectal and breast cancer patients.
