Abstract
In India, Kinesics the study of the nonverbal communication divers significantly in setting between rural and urban. This difference is because of its social norms, cultural practices and today’s global exposer. The present paper compares the use of kinesics: gestures, posture facial expressions, eye contact and proxemics in rural and urban India. In addition, it traces how traditional values dominate rural kinesics, and urban kinesics that reflects a blend of traditional and modern influences. The paper focuses on the various factors that shapes the differences. It also discusses how the implications of these factors matter in intercultural communication in India.
