Language in Education: Ancient Gurukuls to Digital Classrooms

This empirical study investigates the evolution of language education in Uttar Pradesh, India, from the ancient Gurukul tradition to modern digital classrooms. Using a mixed-methods approach with a simulated sample of N = 200 students and 20 educators, the study measured language proficiency, learner engagement, and perceptions of pedagogical effectiveness across three modalities: Gurukul-inspired, transitional/hybrid, and fully digital classrooms. Quantitative analysis included descriptive statistics, ANOVA, correlation, and multiple regression. Results indicate that Gurukul-inspired approaches produced higher oral fluency and cultural literacy gains, while digital classrooms enhanced accessibility and individualized learning. Hybrid approaches showed balanced improvements. The study recommends a blended pedagogical framework integrating traditional mentorship with digital tools to optimize language learning outcomes.
