Description

As part of the research project “Grid Mapping as a Basis for Biodiversity Monitoring in the Kyiv Agglomeration” (0123U100814), a database titled “Biodiversity of the Kyiv Urban Agglomeration” was created. It contains information on the rare component of the flora and alien plant species with high invasion potential. The data were obtained from open literature sources, herbarium collections of the M.G. Kholodny Institute of Botany of the NAS of Ukraine (KW), the M.M. Gryshko National Botanical Garden of the NAS of Ukraine (KWHA), Taras Shevchenko National University of Kyiv (KWU), Pavlo Tychyna Uman State Pedagogical University (UPU), the online resources UkrBIN (https://ukrbin.com), iNaturalist (https://www.inaturalist.org), GBIF (https://www.gbif.org), as well as the authors’ own observations.

To prepare distribution maps of the studied species in the MapInfo software environment, the grid mapping method was applied. A prototype of the base grid map was created with a cell size of 0.05 × 0.05 degrees. The basic unit of the map is a cell measuring 3.5 km in longitude and 5.6 km in latitude, with an area of 19.6 km².

For each of the studied species, a separate layer was created and stored in the electronic database, containing information on the number of occurrences of each species within a given grid square.

A grid distribution map of Cuscuta campestris Yunck. within the territory of the Kyiv urban agglomeration was created.
