ENFORCE Glossary
Authors/Creators
Description
The ENFORCE Glossary aims to establish a comprehensive, open-access, and living reference framework that ensures conceptual clarity, terminological consistency, and shared understanding of environmental compliance assurance within the ENFORCE project and beyond. Developed through a structured, participatory, and iterative methodology combining desk research, partner engagement, and validation (coordinated by the University of Thessaly with the participation of all consortium partners), the Glossary serves a dual purpose: as a detailed internal working tool supporting interdisciplinary coordination, precision, and coherence across all Work Packages and case studies, and as a publicly accessible resource that enhances dissemination, stakeholder engagement, accessibility, and long-term sustainability. With a qualitative and interpretive focus, the Glossary prioritises contextual understanding over quantitative classification, covering key concepts related to environmental compliance assurance, citizen and stakeholder engagement, data, models and tools, governance, legal admissibility, Earth Observation, citizen science, and Living Lab methodologies. Anchored in the recognition of diverse governance levels - from EU and regional to local - the Glossary supports consistent communication among policymakers, institutions, practitioners, researchers, and citizens. Subject to regular, planned updates, it functions both as a reference document and a dynamic methodological resource that standardises terminology, facilitates interdisciplinary collaboration, and enables accurate interpretation and sustained use of ENFORCE outputs beyond the project’s lifetime.
