Description
This paper presents the results of research on animal mortality conducted in 2010 along two sections of a communal road in Ojców, within Ojców National Park (ONP). Between April and October, 1,819 animals — mainly invertebrates representing at least 89 species — were killed by car traffic. The species most frequently affected were Anoplotrupes stercorosus and Helix pomatia. The results from 2010 are compared with similar studies carried out the previous year. The research demonstrates that animal mortality on the road depends on both the faunal richness of habitats bordering the road and the intensity of traffic. Restricting access on the Ojców road to local vehicles only has undoubtedly reduced the level of animal mortality. Among the beetles killed, four species new to the fauna of Ojców National Park were identified: Amara eurynota (Carabidae), Philonthus cognatus (Staphylinidae), Otiorhynchus coecus (Curculionidae) and Margarinotus bipustulatus (Histeridae)
