Description
Edwardsiana curvata sp. nov. Oh & Jung
(Figs. 1A–I)
Description. Body slender. Body coloration entirely ivory (Fig. 2-A). Crown width except eyes longer than length. Pronotum ivory, width similar head includes eyes. Frontoclypeus and anteclypeus ivory and narrow, labrum dark brown and well developed (Fig. 2-B). Thorax yellow and legs light yellow. Forewing translucent with yellowish translucent apical cell. Abdomen long and light yellow in dorsal view, yellow in ventral view.
Male abdominal apodemes well developed, broad and extended to end of 5th sternite (Fig. 1-C).
Male genitalia. Pygofer lobe rounded with angulate process at anterolateral margin and irregularly micro spins. Pygofer lobe with seven macrosetae at base and ca. seven macrosetae on anterior margin, some follicle on exterior margin (Fig. 1-F). Subgenital plate long with one macrosetae at basal margin and several microsetae along lateral margin (Fig. 1-I). Style long and gradually curved with several microsetae on interior margin and some signs of pores on exterior margin, apex of style twist (Fig. 1-G). Connective with arms and edge consist of distinct frame (Fig. 1-H). Aedeagus with two pairs of at apex; preapical process bifurcated. Apical process long and gently sinuate, preapical process shorter than first process and oblique, third process shortest and thin in caudal view (Fig. 1-D). Aedeagus greatly curved with apical process extended anterad, preapical process withe branch extended anteroventrad in lateral view (Fig. 1-E).
Measurements. Male 3.10mm.
Specimens examined. Holotype: [KNA] ♂, Korea National Arboretum, Soheul-eup, Pocheon-si, Gyeonggido, Korea, 14. ⅴ iii. 2017, Malaise trap.
Host plants. Unknown.
Distributions. Korea.
Remarks. This new species is similar to E. ishidai (Matsumura, 1932) (Dworakowska, 1982), but differs as follows: 1) first process of aedeagus curved in caudal view; 2) second process of aedeagus straight in caudal view; 3) second process of aedeagus curved gently in lateral view.
Etymology. The specific name is derived from the Latin adjective “curvus” (curve), which refers to the shape of the 1st process of the aedeagus (Fig 1-D).
