Description

This repository contains a high-resolution geomorphological dataset designed to support quantitative morphological analyses of small-scale, conical landforms on Mars. The core component is a digital elevation model (DEM) derived from a High Resolution Imaging Science Experiment (HiRISE) stereo-pair acquired onboard the Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter. The stereo images originate from observations ESP_043987_1825 and ESP_035521_1825, centered at 2.3733°N, 146.7865°E and 2.3737°N, 146.7930°E, respectively. These individual images were processed by the University of Arizona to produce the DEM DTEEC_043987_1825_035521_1825_A01, centered at 2.376°N, 146.795°E. The original datasets are publicly accessible through the Lunar & Planetary Laboratory (LPL) HiRISE website: https://www.uahirise.org/dtm/dtm.php?ID=ESP_043987_1825 and https://www.uahirise.org/PDS/DTM/ESP/ORB_043900_043999/ESP_043987_1825_ESP_035521_1825/

In addition, this repository includes a shapefile (.shp) containing point features marking the locations of pitted cones identified by an expert for automatic morphology detection using the MarsCONE software toolbox. The annotated pitted cones serve as ground-truth references for validating MarsCONE performance. Each feature is assigned a unique ID number, which the MarsCONE algorithm uses to organize and segregate the resulting measurements.

Licensing and Attribution

  • HiRISE imagery is released under public access conditions via the University of Arizona’s LPL HiRISE portal; users should follow the official HiRISE citation and credit guidelines.
  • The shapefile and supplementary materials in this repository may be cited using the DOI assigned by Zenodo.
