Description

Xiphidiopsis (Euxiphidiopsis) autumnalis (Gorochov, 1998)

(Fig. 13, 14)

Xiphidiopsis autumnalis Gorochov, 1998: 104.

Xiphidiopsis (Euxiphidiopsis) autumnalis Gorochov, 1998 — Liu & Yin, 2004: 99.

Xiphidiopsis (Xiphidiopsis) autumnalis Gorochov, 1998 — Kim & Pham, 2014: 71; Jiao et al., 2014: 554; Cigliano et al., 2025. Euxiphidiopsis (Euxiphidiopsis) autumnalis (Gorochov, 1998) — Liu et al., 2010: 70; Shi et al., 2014: 389; Wang, 2020: 97.

Material examined. • 1♂; TAIWAN, Nantou County, Ren’ai Township, Marosan (親žëạ.ª大); N23.97928 E121.13550, 1044± 5 m.a.s.l.; 27 June 2023; attracted to light at station by the road; coll. M.S. Chan; NCHU.

Taxonomic remarks. Euxiphidiopsis was first described as a subgenus under Xiphidiopsis (see Gorohov, 1993). Subsequently, Liu & Zhang (2000) raised the Euxiphidiopsis to genus level. Gorochov (2022) later reinstated the taxon to subgenus.

The species was first described with question under the genus Xiphidiopsis (Gorochov, 1998) as only female was known. Liu & Yin (2004) later placed the species under Euxiphidiopsis, but this is not always recognized (see Kim & Pham, 2014; Jiao et al., 2014; Cigliano et al., 2025). These are either checklist or species database, except for Jiao et al. (2014). Jiao et al. (2014) reported the species in Hainan Island but did not specify the rationale for placing the species under the nominal subgenus. As such, we speculate that this could be an oversight. Here, we consider this species under the subgenus Euxiphidiopsis, until further revision of this species is done.

Type locality. VIETNAM: Vĩnh Phúc Province, near village Tam Dao.

Distribution. Vietnam (Vĩnh Phúc); China mainland (Guangxi, Hainan); Taiwan (Nantou County [country new record]).
