Nothing but benefits: embedding my ELIXIR-UK material in university teaching
Description
This FAIRytale reflects on how Andrew Mason, an ELIXIR-UK Data Stewardship Training Fellow at the University of York, has embedded fellowship-developed research data management (RDM) and bioinformatics training materials into undergraduate teaching, postgraduate workshops and research group onboarding. Through creating RDM bite videos, hands-on workshops and reusable teaching resources during the fellowship, Andrew gained practical skills and confidence in designing effective data-focused training. These structured and reusable materials (now integrated across multiple teaching contexts) strengthen data acumen within the department, reduce reliance on overstretched bioinformaticians and introduce students and researchers to ELIXIR-UK’s wider training ecosystem. The fellowship continues to provide long-lasting benefits for both teaching practice and learner development.
