Description

This article contributes to the knowledge of the family Tabanidae recorded so far in the eastern part of the Polish Pomerania. The work is based on data reported in the literature and new, unpublished materials collected over 40 years. The examined specimens were identified to 6 genera and 23 species (nearly 45% of the Polish Tabanidae). Several species of the genera Haematopota, Hybomitra, and Tabanus were rarely observed in the study region and/or have not been recorded here before this research. The most diverse genera were Hybomitra and Tabanus. The most abundant species were Haematopota pluvialis, Chrysops caecutiens, and Tabanus maculicornis. Adults appeared from early May to late August, with the highest number of species recorded in June (21 species). An updated checklist of Polish Tabanidae is also provided.
