3-D Printed Personalized Polypills For Polypharmacy Patient

The simultaneous use of several medications by patients, especially the elderly and those with long-term illnesses, is known as polypharmacy. This practice presents difficulties with regard to drug interactions, complicated dosage, and adherence. Multiple active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) can now be mixed into a single dosage form called customized polypills thanks to latest advancements in three-dimensional (3D) printing technology. Customizing medication for each patient by considering their individual physiology, drug response, and genetic composition is the goal of customized medicine, which can be drastically alter the healthcare sector. A wide variety of dosage forms for medications with different sizes, release profiles, and drug combinations can be made via 3D printing. The primary 3D printing technology platforms being studied in the pharmaceutical business are pressure-assisted microsyringes, inkjet printing, fused filament fabrication, binder jetting, selective laser sintering, and stereolithography. In the future, patients may receive personalized medications in a clinical setting thanks to this technology. This paper discusses the various 3D printing methods and their benefits as well as their drawbacks. By examining its uses, technological developments, regulatory issues, and possible future paths, the paper seeks to analyze the present trends in 3D printed individualized polypills. Understanding how this technology can revolutionize pharmaceutical manufacturing and patient care is the aim. Furthermore, we focused on the application of 3D printed polypills to a range of conditions, such as Parkinson's disease, metabolic syndrome, cardiovascular disorders, and epilepsy. We list the different polypills used to treat those diseases in these reviews. We also discuss their advantages in treating those mentioned illnesses. This review focuses on various 3D printing methods used in pharmaceuticals as well as 3D printed customized polypills for patients with polypharmacy.
