School-Based Management Practices: Through the Lens of School Heads and Teachers

Description

This qualitative phenomenological study explored the lived experiences, challenges, and coping mechanisms of selected public elementary school heads and teachers in implementing School-Based Management (SBM) within the New Corella District, Division of Davao del Norte. Ten (10) participants, comprising both school heads and teachers, were purposefully selected, ensuring their rich knowledge and firsthand involvement in SBM processes. Data were gathered through in-depth interviews (IDIs), which allowed for comprehensive and contextually relevant narratives. Findings revealed four key themes reflecting their lived experiences: Personal Sacrifices in SBM Implementation; Shared Leadership and Stakeholder Engagement; Transparency and Accountability as Pillars of School Governance; and Stronger Collaborative Culture and Teamwork. To overcome the challenges of SBM, participants employed strategies such as collaborative strategic planning and coordination, resource mobilization and stakeholder partnerships, continuous learning and innovative solutions, and maintaining a positive mindset with motivational leadership. The findings stressed the vital role of teamwork, resourcefulness, and stakeholder collaboration in enhancing SBM implementation, while offering significant implications for participatory governance, effective leadership, and sustainable school improvement efforts at the grassroots level.
