El liderato femenino del hogar. Una propuesta didáctica para Historia Medieval
Authors/Creators
Description
This study proposes a structured didactic framework for integrating the Gender History and the analysis of female-headed households into the teaching of Medieval History. Drawing on quantitative and qualitative evidence from late medieval Castile, the paper argues that fostering historical thinking requires moving beyond traditional content transmission toward methodologies that actively engage students with primary sources, statistical interpretation, and empathetic reasoning. The proposal outlines a sequence of five interconnected learning activities based on tax registers from Sigüenza (1492–1519), combining conceptual instruction with data analysis, case studies, and problem-based learning. This process enables students to examine gendered economic structures, assess inequality through tools such as the Lorenz curve, and contextualize individual experiences of women who managed households in the Middle Ages. The chapter also reflects on the challenges and opportunities of didactic transposition when adapting specialized research on women’s legal, economic, and social roles for university and secondary classrooms. Ultimately, the contribution demonstrates how the study of marginalized groups can enhance students’ understanding of historical processes, encourage critical engagement with evidence, and bridge the gap between historiographical advances and educational practice.
