Description
Dryas octopetala L. is a circumpolar arctic-alpine relic diploid shrub. In Ukraine, it is considered rare and protected nationally (Didukh, 2009). There are 4 small populations in the Ukrainian Carpathians. The genetic structure of high-altitude plant species populations is still understudied in Ukraine. So, the work attempts to answer questions on the molecular genetic diversity of Dryas octopetala. Such information is crucial for small populations where gene drift often occurs and can also answer questions on the evolutionary and geographical processes within a species and prospects for the populations’ existence, which are essential for establishing effective conservation measures.
