Description

Purpose:
This study was conducted to examine the level of anger tendency among nurses in their workplace and to identify the personal, environmental, and occupational factors influencing it.

Materials and Methods:
The study population consisted of nurses working at Gaziosmanpaşa Taksim Training and Research Hospital and Üsküdar State Hospital in Istanbul. The sample included 224 participants who voluntarily agreed to take part in the research. Data were collected using the Sociodemographic Data Form and the State–Trait Anger Expression Inventory.

Results:
Trait anger levels were found to be significantly higher among male nurses, those who do not enjoy their profession, those who experience difficulties communicating with patients, those who work more than three night shifts per week, individuals under 25 years of age, those raised with strict parental control, and those with a history of domestic violence. Anger-out (reflecting anger) scores were higher among individuals with low income and heavy workload. Anger-in (internalized anger) levels were elevated among participants who feel lonely or have experienced domestic violence. Anger-control levels were higher among married participants and those with children.

Conclusions:
The findings indicate that nurses experience high levels of state anger and often feel insufficient in expressing and regulating this emotion. These results highlight the need for institutional interventions to reduce workplace stressors and support nurses’ emotional well-being.
