Description
This report describes a preliminary investigation into automated methods for converting 3D point clouds (generated by object scanners) into polygonal meshes. Several Python libraries were tested, focusing on Open3D, PyVista, and MeshLab (via PyMeshLab). Experiments were conducted using a point cloud of an apple, and the results indicated that, although the libraries offer promising functionalities, all presented problems such as spikes, holes, or integration failures. The report includes detailed flowcharts of the process and a call for collaboration aimed at improving the pipeline's robustness.
