Description

This volume brings together contributions from leading specialists in pre-Columbian Caribbean civilizations, alongside scientists and technologists involved in the study and digital enhancement of the cotton cemí, a Taíno artefact housed at the Museum of Anthropology and Ethnography of the University of Turin. The chapters offer complementary disciplinary perspectives that illuminate the singularity of this ethnographic object. Spanning archaeology, cultural heritage history, anthropology, conservation science and restoration technologies, as well as computing and programming, the volume examines the cemí’s characteristics, origins, biography and provenance. It also traces the object’s trajectory within the broader process of digitisation and valorisation that culminated in the creation of its digital twin.
