This presentation was the second in a series. The webinar introduces the SSbD-framework and adaptation to Pharma. The presentation covered two main topics:

• SSbD Framework: Nina Malanda (RISE) explained that the SSbD framework, updated in 2025, integrates safety and sustainability into innovation through life cycle thinking, transparency, and iterative assessments. It offers flexible, tiered evaluations and guidance for adapting complexity to different stages of technological readiness.
• Application to Pharmaceuticals: Caroline Mormond (RIVM) dicussed the challenges of applying SSBD to pharma, requiring tailored approaches like SSBC due to data gaps and trade-offs between safety and sustainability. Holistic, cross-disciplinary tools are needed for early-stage decision-making and to manage complex regulatory and environmental challenges.
