The Impact of NASA's MAST Data Archive
Description
The Impact of NASA's MAST Data Archive §Talk abstract: The Barbra A. Mikulski Archive for Space Telescopes (MAST) hosts one of the largest digital archives of astronomical data in the world. MAST now hosts science-ready data and services from over two dozen NASA and contributing ground-based observatories. The data have been obtained over more than a half-century, and support cutting-edge research from active and legacy mission archives. While the scientific accomplishments from HST and other hosted missions are well documented, little has been published about the productivity and impact of the body of literature that the research community has produced based on MAST-hosted data. We present a bibliometric study of the more than 40.000 refereed science papers published over the past 50 years to understand quantitatively the productivity, impact, and cross-mission synergy of the Missions hosted at MAST.
