 A Novel

 One of the central themes of the book is the dramatic confrontation between the individual and the System. The real biography of the Soviet children’s writer Arkady Gaidar is interwoven here with phantasmagorical invention.

On one of its layers, the novel is devoted to Russian history. It portrays, in particular, the lesser-known and complicated chapters of A. P. Gaidar’s life, casting his fate and legacy in a new light. The work also introduces new approaches to depicting both the historical past and contemporary times. But this is only the surface.
The novel touches far deeper matters. Through the voices—and, more importantly, the destinies—of its two central figures, Gaidar and the contemporary writer Godar, several of the “accursed” Russian questions are spoken aloud and resolved. In a broader sense, this is a book about Russia: about its inner and outer paths, about the contradictions between form and essence—both within the country and within the souls of the characters.
And yet there is a deeper layer still.
Ultimately, this novel is about the search for the road to the heavenly Homeland, a path inseparable from inner Depth.
Although it can be read entirely on its own, this work forms a kind of dilogy together with the author’s earlier novel *The Dog-Colored Road*.

   Одна из главных тем произведения —  драматическое противостояние человека и Системы. Реальная биография детского советского писателя Аркадия Гайдара сочетается в нем с фантасмагорическим вымыслом. 

    На одном из планов - роман посвящен отечественной истории. В нем, в частности - изображены малоизвестные страницы не простой биографии А. П. Гайдара. Жизнь и судьба этого писателя высвечиваются по-новому. Кроме того, в произведении имеются новые подходы к изображению как исторического прошлого, так и современности. Но это - относится лишь к поверхностному плану. Произведение затрагивает и более глубинные вещи. Устами обоих главных героев - Гайдара и современного литератора Годара - а лучше сказать, всей их судьбой - проговариваются и разрешаются некоторые "проклятые" русские вопросы. По большому счету, это книга о России - о ее внутреннем и внешнем пути, о противоречиях между формой и содержанием - как в самой стране, так и в душах отдельных героев.
   Но в книге есть и еще один более глубокий пласт.
В конечном итоге эта книга – о поисках пути в небесное Отечество, которое сопряжено с внутренней Глубиной.
   Произведение, которое, однако, можно рассматривать совершенно отдельно, составляет вместе с более ранним романом автора «Дорога цвета собаки» своеобразную дилогию.
