MIGRATION AND DEVELOPMENT: THE CASE OF THE NIGERIAN DIASPORA

Abstract

This paper explores policy measures the Nigerian government can deploy for better mobilization of its diaspora for national development. The paper uses both a systematic literature review and the results of primary sources. Responses from a questionnaire survey (n=117) were analyzed to identify policy responses that would leverage diasporic engagement in the country. Findings reveal that such measures would include constant electricity supply, reduction of insecurity, good infrastructure, quality healthcare system, and so on. The study highlights the importance of diasporas as change agents when appropriate policies are in place to leverage their skills and capabilities.
