O presente estudo analisa a poluição urbana de Manaus por microplásticos, destacando seus efeitos ambientais, sociais e sanitários. Essas partículas, com menos de 5 mm de diâmetro, vêm sendo identificadas em ecossistemas aquáticos, solos urbanos e até em organismos humanos, sendo reconhecidas como poluentes emergentes com potencial risco à saúde pública. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida por meio de metodologia bibliográfica e documental, com base em fontes acadêmicas e institucionais nacionais e internacionais. Essa abordagem permitiu reunir, comparar e interpretar resultados de pesquisas científicas recentes, legislações ambientais, relatórios técnicos e diretrizes de organismos multilaterais, com o objetivo de compreender como os microplásticos impactam os Objetivos do Desenvolvimento Sustentável (ODS) e a governança ambiental urbana. Os resultados apontam que a ausência de políticas públicas específicas em níveis municipal e estadual agrava o problema, sobretudo em cidades como Manaus, marcadas pela desigualdade socioambiental e pela fragilidade do saneamento básico. Conclui-se pela urgência na regulamentação ambiental e no monitoramento sistemático da presença de microplásticos nas águas urbanas, bem como na promoção de políticas educativas e no fortalecimento de práticas de economia circular que reduzam o uso e o descarte inadequado de plásticos.
Abstract
This study analyzes urban pollution in Manaus by microplastics, highlighting its environmental, social, and health effects. These particles, less than 5 mm in diameter, have been identified in aquatic ecosystems, urban soils, and even in human organisms, and are recognized as emerging pollutants with potential risks to public health. The research was developed using a bibliographic and documentary methodology, based on national and international academic and institutional sources. This approach allowed for the collection, comparison, and interpretation of results from recent scientific research, environmental legislation, technical reports, and guidelines from multilateral organizations, with the aim of understanding how microplastics impact the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and urban environmental governance. The results indicate that the absence of specific public policies at the municipal and state levels exacerbates the problem, especially in cities like Manaus, marked by socio-environmental inequality and the fragility of basic sanitation. The study concludes that there is an urgent need for environmental regulation and systematic monitoring of the presence of microplastics in urban waters, as well as the promotion of educational policies and the strengthening of circular economy practices that reduce the use and improper disposal of plastics.
