Why Platforms Want Your ID (and No, It's Not to Stop Bots)
Description
This work critiques the use of government ID uploads as a method of digital human verification. It argues that IDs neither prove personhood nor deter bots at scale. In contrast, telemetry and RF signals offer more reliable behavioral and environmental indicators. The piece concludes that platforms rely on ID collection because it is profitable and familiar, not because it works.
