DATASET Training music, training emotions.

This dataset includes the behavioral data used in two studies investigating the relationship between musical expertise and higher-order emotional abilities, within the framework of the Emotional Intelligence ability model. The first sheet (Study 1; N = 130) contains data from four adult groups—expert musicians with more than ten years of instrumental practice, music therapy students, psychologists/psychotherapists, and controls without musical or psychological training. For each participant, the file reports age, gender, empathy traits (IRI), personality traits (TIPI), and performance-based Emotional Intelligence scores from the MSCEIT. The second sheet (Study 2; N = 133) includes data from participants with 0 to more than 10 years of instrumental practice and reports age, gender, Musical Ear Test (MET) scores for melodic and rhythmic discrimination, and MSCEIT scores.
