VIII Workshop on Data Science, University of São Paulo: Enabling Open Science and Making Research Data FAIR with DataCite
Description
Mohamad Mostafa delivered a virtual presentation titled “Enabling Open Science and Making Research Data FAIR with DataCite” during the VIII Workshop on Data Science: FAIR Data Practices for Atmospheric and Amazon Research, held on 26–27 November 2025 at the Electrical Engineering Building, Polytechnic School, University of São Paulo (USP).
In his talk, Mohamad provided an overview of the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science and highlighted the essential role of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs)—including DOIs, ORCID iDs, and other identifier types—in strengthening research integrity, visibility, and attribution. He introduced DataCite and its global community, demonstrating how DataCite services support open, transparent, and interconnected research ecosystems. Mohamad also emphasized how PID-enabled metadata enhances trust in research infrastructure, improves discoverability, and aligns seamlessly with the FAIR principles, enabling more efficient data sharing, reuse, and long-term stewardship.
