Description

This dataset provides the complete questionnaire and the aggregated survey results accompanying the paper "Design and Technical Requirements for Data Trustees: Insights from an Expert Survey" (HICSS 2026).

The expert survey investigates the design and technical requirements of data trustees. It was administered via the open-source platform LimeSurvey on a self-managed server and distributed to 135 data trustee experts across industry, academia, and other sectors. It remained open for four weeks (November 26 to December 20, 2024). Of 62 responses received, 35 complete responses were included in the analysis. The questionnaire structure is based on the intermediary taxonomy of Schweihoff et al. (2024).

The questionnaire comprises Likert-scale and multiple-answer questions organized into thematic blocks:

  • Trust & Transparency
  • Anonymization & Data Protection
  • Monetization
  • Provision of Algorithms
  • Data Sharing between Data Trustees
  • Technical Requirements & Data Management
  • Security, Trust & Compliance
  • Data Usage Policies & Consent
  • Tools, Models & Methods
  • Data Spaces

Survey responses are visualized using grouped bar charts (multiple-answer questions) and divergent bar charts (Likert-scale questions), enabling direct comparison of agreement levels and selection frequencies. This material allows researchers and practitioners to independently review the survey instrument and the empirical results.
