Evaluation of English Learning Attitudes and Motivation: A Survey Study of Public High School Students in Sigi Regency

The National Examination Results Report, Educational Assessment Center, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, revealed that the national exam score for English Language Study at State Senior High Schools in Central Sulawesi Province was an average of 43.86, while the National Examination Results for English Language Study at State Senior High Schools in Sigi Regency were only an average of 39.95 (2019). The low average score for the national exam results in English language study, even though it was several years ago, but researchers were called to conduct research with the aim of evaluating the attitudes and motivations of State Senior High School students in Sigi Regency, especially State Senior High School 4 Students in Sigi Regency in learning English. What are the attitudes and what underlies the social and cultural motivations of students in learning English and their relationship to students' academic and career goals in the future. How do they respond to teachers in the teaching and learning process, and what are their attitudes toward learning English? This study is a survey using the Attitude Motivation Test Battery (AMTB) and interviews. Data were analyzed quantitatively and descriptively. The results of this study reveal that students' attitudes and motivation in learning English are very positive because attitudes and motivation are closely related to language learning. Student learning motivation is expected to reveal not only integrative aspects but also instrumental aspects. What are the teachers' attitudes toward learning English?
