SANTOS HISTORICAL CULTURAL CENTER WITH EXHIBITIONS IN HONOR OF THE PATRON OF BRAZILIAN INDEPENDENCE, JOSÉ BONIFÁCIO DE ANDRADA E SILVA
Authors/Creators
Description
This paper presents an architectural project for a cultural center
featuring permanent exhibitions in homage to José Bonifácio de Andrada e Silva, the
patron of Brazilian independence. The facility is situated in the historic center of
Santos, São Paulo, Brazil, on the site encompassing the Arcos do Valongo, a protected
historic gable designated by the Council for the Defense of Santos' Cultural Heritage
(CONDEPASA). The design comprises a three-story building with a facade formed by
an ensemble of arches, seamlessly integrated with the safeguarded gable,
complemented by a green viewpoint offering vistas of the Port of Santos, the largest in
Latin America. The initiative seeks to underscore the significance of revitalizing the
city's Historic Center, thereby fostering contributions to local culture, education, and
tourism.
