Description
This study assessed the extent to which Olympic values are integrated into the Bachelor of Physical Education (BPED) curriculum and examined how demographic factors such as age, sex, and year level influence students’ perceptions. Specifically, it focused on five core Olympic values—Joy of Effort, Fair Play, Respect for Others, Pursuit of Excellence, and Balance between Body, Mind, and Will—as reflected in various learning activities, including class lectures and discussions, sports participation and PE classes, assessment and performance evaluations, group work and team-based tasks, and classroom rules and teacher behavior modeling. A total of 216 BPED students participated in the study. Data were gathered through a structured survey questionnaire and analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including means, t-tests, and correlation analyses. Results revealed that the integration of Olympic values in the BPED curriculum was perceived to a great extent, with “Respect for Others” obtaining the highest mean and “Balance between Body, Mind, and Will” the lowest. Significant differences were found across age, sex, and year level, indicating that demographic characteristics influence how students experience and internalize Olympic values. Correlation analysis further showed that certain learning dimensions, particularly Classroom Rules and Teacher Behavior Modeling, demonstrated meaningful associations with specific Olympic values. The findings underscore the importance of strengthening values-based instruction and holistic learning experiences in physical education. In response, an action plan titled “Project OLYMPIAD: Olympic Learning and Values Promotion in Integrated Academic Development” was proposed to enhance curriculum delivery through teacher training, experiential activities, and reflective assessments. The program aims to produce competent and values-driven physical educators who embody the Olympic ideals of discipline, respect, fairness, and excellence.
