Description

Among the Sustainable Development Goals of the 2030 Agenda is number 5, which
aims to achieve gender equality. Andalusian public universities have incorporated this perspective in their International Development Cooperation projects. This research
studies the initiatives developed by the University of Malaga in relation to volunteering
and how they include the goals of SDG 5. To achieve this objective, a content analysis
of the report published by the institution, semi-structured questionnaires to those responsible
for these projects and a review of the scientific literature are used to establish
the categories of the study. The results indicate that the lines of action of the projects
deployed by the UMA cover aspects such as training and research on cooperation, the
strengthening of these institutions in their geographical areas of action and the dissemination
of these programmes. The gender perspective is transversally present in these
goals. In conclusion, working from the University on SDG 5 is relevant to achieve the
empowerment of women in developing countries, while at the same time it constitutes
a tool to involve the internal public of these institutions.
