D4.2 Evaluation of the first round of demonstrations

Within the SOTERIA project, alpha releases of created solutions to enhance road safety of
vulnerable road users (VRUs) have been created. These shall be tested to identify malfunctions of
the alpha releases or additional functionalities which have been stated as desirable from potential
users of the solutions. Seven SOTERIA solutions have been tested in four different Living Labs (LLs)
within the first round of demonstrations. The evaluated solutions:
▪ help to navigate and move in traffic more safely,
▪ help to identify and locate traffic demand and traffic safety, and
▪ map and classify traffic incidents.
For comprehensibility, this deliverable first summarises technical aspects of the solutions first
presented in deliverables D2.1 | Safe mobility data space and simulation platform and D2.2 |
Explainable accident and demand prediction analytics as well as the current situations of VRUs in
the Living Labs as described in deliverables D1.2 | Requirements and SOTERIA architecture and
D1.3 | Learning material and output of co-creation activities. For each solution, different
evaluation approaches have been adopted that help to assess the described functionalities of the
solutions in deliverable D4.1 | Demonstrations planning guidelines.
The feedback from users or technical partners in the first round of demonstration is reviewed and
analysed. These evaluations results allow to identify potential improvements for each solution.
These improvements, for instance, include:
▪ adaptions to data transfer methods,
▪ adaptions to influences on the measuring accuracy of sensors,
▪ visualisation adjustments for better comprehension, and
▪ measurement-specific bugs.
Furthermore, the results help to highlight and rank the needs for adjustment. On the other hand,
they partially allow to create benchmarks to quantify the improvement of solutions between the
first and second round of demonstrations. Thereby, the results and conclusions drawn are the
basis for more stable, comprehensible and user-friendly solutions for the second round of
demonstrations within the SOTERIA project.
