Beginning with the emotional and literary traditions of Mozarabic Spain, it traces how Ibn Hazm’s Ṭawq al-Ḥamāma (The Ring of the Dove) shaped the troubadour ethos, courtly love doctrines, and—eventually—the emotional grammar of European romantic culture. The study reconstructs how concepts such as saudade, idealized suffering, feminine symbolic elevation, and gendered emotional asymmetries emerged within the tri-religious milieu of medieval Iberia, later becoming foundational to Western ideals of love, devotion, and relational identity.

Beyond historical reconstruction, the work examines the psychological, ethical, and symbolic dynamics embedded in these traditions. Through detailed textual analysis, cross-cultural comparison, and a critical engagement with Buddhist phenomenology, gender theory, and medieval literary studies, the monograph reveals how archetypes of longing, sacrifice, and emotional labor became gender-differentiated and institutionally codified.
