El enfoque y el desenfoque fin-de-siècle: la representación de la mujer entre Villiers y Charcot

Este artículo explora una paradoja que caracteriza a las cultura visual fin-de-siècle: el advenimiento de nuevas tecnologías ópticas prometió mayor claridad y objetividad pero desencadenó una estética del borramiento. A través de una lectura comparada de L’Ève future (1886), de Villiers de l’Isle-Adam, y de la Iconographie photographique de la Salpêtrière (1877–1880), examinaremos los modos en que la literatura y fotografía decimonónica representan —e intervienen— el cuerpo de la mujer. Aquí atenderemos a un escenario moderno que destaca por su hipervisibilidad y por encarnar una hibridez entre arte y ciencia.
Abstract (English)
This article explores a paradox that characterizes fin-de-siècle visual culture: the emergence of new optical technologies promised greater clarity and objectivity, they simultaneously gave rise to an aesthetics of erasure. Through a comparative reading of Villiers de l’Isle-Adam’s L’Ève future (1886) and the Iconographie photographique de la Salpêtrière (1877–1880), the article examines the ways in which nineteenth-century literature and photography represent and shaped the female body. The discussion foregrounds the hybridity between art and science and the configuration of a regime of hypervisibility characteristic of modernity.
