Description

The Northwater - the largest Polynya in the Arctic - contains beside the unique
natural values also a local human population that depends on an existence where
traditional hunting is the focal point . This report includes bird observations from the
area north of Qaanaaq. Observations that are interesting because of the season they
are conducted on, but also because of the northern , difficult accessable locations
that are visited during fieldwork . The report also includes a description of the subsistence harvest of walrus and narwhal in Qaanaaq area . It lists the factors where local
hunters believe that there is a mismatch between regulation / management of the two
species , and the conditions as they experience as professional hunters
