The 1579 Geneva Edition of Pliny's Epistles and Panegyricus by Henri Estienne
Description
The year 1579 saw the appearance of a significant edition of Pliny the Younger’s Epistulae and Panegyricus, issued from the Geneva press of Henri Estienne (Henricus Stephanus), one of the foremost scholar-printers of the Renaissance. This study examines a specific copy of that edition, analysing its editorial framework, classical contents, and bibliographical history. It situates the work within the intellectual legacy of the Estienne press and the Roman literary tradition it sought to preserve, with particular attention to its later red morocco binding and marbled endpapers.
