Description

Education is the most powerful instrument for shaping minds and transforming societies. It is not merely the transmission of knowledge but the cultivation of character, wisdom, and critical thought. In the words of John Dewey, “Education is not preparation for life; education is life itself.” Guided by this profound principle, I am delighted to present “Philosophical and Sociological Bases of Education”, meticulously designed for B.Ed students of Karnataka universities.

This book seeks to illuminate the philosophical and sociological foundations that underpin educational practice, helping future educators understand not only what they teach but why they teach. Each chapter is structured to foster conceptual clarity, encourage analytical thinking, and strengthen the ability to critically reflect on the purposes and processes of education. Carefully selected practice questions at the end of each chapter further empower students to engage deeply with the material and prepare effectively for examinations.

As Maria Montessori observed, “The greatest sign of success for a teacher… is to be able to say, ‘The children are now working as if I did not exist.’” This book aspires to nurture teachers who inspire, guide, and empower learners to realize their fullest potential.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to my family and friends for their unwavering support, and to Dr. Sudhira Mantry, Director, and Sorupa Prusty, Executive, of Digitalink Publishers, whose vision, guidance, and dedication to excellence have been instrumental in bringing this work to fruition.

It is my hope that this book will serve as both a practical guide and an intellectual companion for B.Ed students, enabling them to achieve academic excellence while deeply appreciating the enduring philosophical and sociological principles that shape meaningful and transformative education.
