Mumtaz Mufti's Novels: Autobiographical Narration
Description
The main character of the novel “Ali pur ka Aili” is *Aili* (Ilyas), who is a reflection of Mumtaz Mufti's own life. Ali is a sensitive, weak and inferior boy whose life is greatly affected by the habits of his father Ali Ahmed. Ali Ahmed is a womanizer and sexually free.Ali's mother 'Hajira' is a patient and loyal woman, while the presence of the stepmother (Safiya and Shamim) further confuses the atmosphere at home. Ali is fed up with the activities happening in his father's room and suffers from psychological confusion. Ali's personality has lacked self-confidence since childhood and he keeps looking for closeness and love from women, but at the same time he feels distance and shyness from women. During his education, he meets 'Shehzad', who is a married and courageous woman. The two develop emotional and physical relationships, but Ali feels defeated and ashamed every time. After this, Eli also starts loving a girl named ‘Sadi’ and both are caught but the marriage does not happen. Eli returns to Shahzad again and when Shahzad’s husband dies, he starts living with her, but Shahzad also dies a few years later. Finally, Eli marries a divorced woman, This novel is a memorable masterpiece of Urdu literature, in which the breadth of characters, the depth of the story and the courage of the subject attract and impress the reader.
The second part of Mutaz Mufti's autobiography was published in 1992 under the title "Alakh Nagri" by Sangmail Publications. Mumtaz Mufti completed this book despite his poor health and serious illness and wrote in the foreword shedding light on the motivations for its creation. In Alipur Ka Eli, I had hidden the fact that I was Eli. Then the secret was revealed and I admitted that I was Aili. Alakh Nagri is the second part of my autobiography. It covers the period from 1947 to the present. In “Ali pur ka Aili”, my greatest observation was a woman. In Lakh Nagri, my greatest observation was Qudratullah Shahab. If Qudratullah had not added the last thing in “Shahab Nama”, I would not have been forced to write Alakh Nagri.
