THE EFFECT OF SELECTION AND BREEDING POTENTIAL OF DAIRY CATTLE IN THE MURMANSK REGION
Authors/Creators
Description
Abstract
The Holstein breed is widespread in the world. Regardless of climate condition, cows of this breed are capable of demonstrating high productivity on farms, including in the Far North, specifically in the Murmansk region. The animals' record achievements are the result not only of selection and breeding work within the herd but also of a well-organized housing and feeding system. In the Murmansk region, cow Argentina 1244 achieved a record milk yield of 19,000 kg.
