FROM TEACHER GROWTH TO STUDENT COMPETENCE: STRATEGIES FOR IMPLEMENTING OPTIMAL EDUCATIONAL MODELS IN ENGLISH LANGUAGE TEACHING IN UZBEKISTAN

Description

Teacher professional development plays a decisive role in shaping students’ competencies for the twenty-first century. Drawing on my experiences across Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, and Uzbekistan, this paper explores how contextualized English instruction—rooted in learners’ personal, social, and cultural realities—can foster education and upbringing in harmony. When teachers continually develop their own knowledge and skills, they are better prepared to design meaningful learning experiences that connect language to life. The paper discusses strategies for implementing optimal educational models such as Communicative Language Teaching (CLT), Task-Based Learning (TBLT), and Project-Based Learning (PBL). I reflect on classroom initiatives, including Global Citizenship Clubs in Turkey, UN Sustainable Development Goal projects in Saudi Arabia, and an upcycled fashion show in Egypt, to show how students can use English to think critically, act responsibly, and engage creatively. Finally, I describe how these ideas are being localized in Uzbekistan to support learners’ cognitive and moral development.
