Market intelligence for exporting agricultural products to for-eign markets: A PRISMA-based bibliometric and systematic review
Authors/Creators
Description
International trade in agri-food products faces growing challenges related to price volatility, trade barriers and information asymmetries, which restrict the competitiveness of exporting companies. This is where market intelligence (MI) becomes a tool for strengthening international marketing processes through the collection and analysis of information for decision-making. The objective was to determine the effectiveness of the use of market intelligence implemented by agricultural product exporting companies through a bibliometric analysis and a systematic review of the scientific literature. The search methodology was developed in the Scopus, Dimensions and Web of Science databases, using the PRISMA 2020 statement to ensure the methodology. The final corpus comprised 83 articles selected from 1960 to 2024. The data demonstrate that scientific production in MI has been increasing since 2018, with the majority being produced in countries such as the United States, China and the United Kingdom. A tripartite structure was identified, encompassing three thematic blocks: conceptual bases of IM, strategic applications in agro-exports, and effects on export performance. It was determined that IM strengthens international competitiveness by reducing uncertainty and guiding strategic decisions. However, its use in the agro-export sector is still limited, especially in Latin America, where there are technological and institutional gaps.
